Music professor Gus LeGarde's wife Elspeth died four years ago, and he hasn't really recovered. There's still a huge hole in his life. He keeps going, though, teaching, playing Chopin, and lavishing love on his daughter Freddie, his grandson, and his dog Max.It all starts to unravel when he rescues a child in the snow, who is too scared even to give a name.
Finding out where the little child belongs is the beginning, not the end, of the trouble, and soon expands to endanger Gus, his family, and the first fragile shoots of possible new love.
I very quickly became totally caught up in Gus's story. He's upright, decent, gentle, and kind. His friends, neighbors, and wider circle are mostly good people, too. There's action here, but Gus is not presented as improbably heroically formidable. He's just a guy who is well-built and has kept himself physically active, so that when he needs to, he can put in a creditable showing in a fight.
Lazar provides a good, involving mystery, with good, involving characters, and in trying times for me, I found it but enjoyable and comforting. The narrator, Robert King Ross, also has an excellent voice for Gus LeGarde and his story, and added to the pleasure.
Highly recommended.

Double Forté LeGarde Mysteries Book 1 edition by Aaron Paul Lazar Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is my first book from this author. The characters were very well developed. They were all very believable. This author's words just flowed so easily. He is a very talented writer. As soon as I finish this review I am going to read the next book in this series. The best part is I get to read them for free as I am a Prime member.
Double Forte is a wonderful beginning to this series! I read a few of the newer books before reading the older ones, and I am in love with all of them, and am planning to read everything Aaron Lazar has written. His style is captivating and his books are simply impossible to put down. Highly recommended!
"Double Forté " was a very good novel with double mystery and some romance. The characters were very well developed and some are extremely likable. The main character, albeit being a bit sappy, managed to get into and out of some serious predicaments. The book abounds in details, from the description of the surroundings, clothes the characters wear, vegetables they grow or food meals they are cooking (the later would actually make many readers hungry).
On the whole, the novel is an enjoyable read and a great beginning of a series.
Double Forté is an extremely well-written book. The storyline, which I never give away, encompasses all the human emotions fear, anxiety, happiness, and especially love.
The hero, Gus LeGarde, is one of the most romantic male characters I've read in a long time. He expresses his feelings, unusual in this day of tough, tight-lipped male protagonists. Don't misunderstand, Gus is tough when he needs to be, but you know being macho for macho's sake is not his nature. He rises to the occasion when those he loves are threatened, and he does so with all his heart and strength.
What Mr. Lazar does so well in Double Forté is create an overwhelming sense of impending calamity, then he lets the reader breathe, waiting for something that doesn't happen until he sets the fear gears in motion again. The bad guy is deliciously rotten, and we root for his demise. This was a five-star read for me. I highly recommend it.
This is the best book I have read in sometime. It has everything, first of all a very relatable hero, references that are absolutely real and underneath it all a serious mystery. All the characters are lovable or hateable but this story lacks nothing. Good plot good characters and a whizbang ending. I would love to read more by this author and I would like to read spinoffs from this main story.can't wait till the next one is available on
Double Forte is a wonderful book, keeping you in suspense. Gus is a music professor and a loving father, grandfather, and friend, grieving over the death of his wife four years ago. He is as at home in the kitchen or garden as he is laying a trap for the bad guy, who does anything possible to get what he wants, and has threatened Gus's loved ones in a way that we have no doubt he will follow through on. Like a Dick Francis hero, Gus is gentle with iron strength underneath. As the story progresses, Gus deals with his grief and becomes closer to his secretary's adult daughter and to the policeman in charge of the manhunt. The characters are interesting and complex, right down to the minor character of the doctor who patches up Gus after encounters with the bad guy. Gus's best friend and brother-in-law, Siegfried, is everything good, while Gus's son-in-law, Harold, is a jerk who doesn't deserve his wife and son. Delightful chilidren and loyal, patient pets round out the list of characters. This a fascinating, well-written book with many levels of plot, and you'll want to keep reading to find out what happens in each.
